My grandfather loved my grandmother once

My grandfather loved my grandmother once
He sang her eyes he breathed her name
Their love was like a field of doves
Their love was like a night of rain
Together their loves were a curious spice
She laughed his dance she shared his name
She pulled him close to love him twice
Once in joy and once in pain
Time goes so quick as quick as sin
Time kissed her face
Time kicked his shin
It winked at them and gave a grin
One year out and one year in
Before they knew it their time had run out
It went like a prayer it went like a shout
It whispered fast as a surgeon's knife
My grandfather loved my grandmother thrice
In joy and pain and all of his life.
