standing far beneath your tower
in darkness with feelings more like cries
my sometimes friend - the air
sings all around me brightly
not unlike a compass
of your eyes

you whisper my essential want
you whisper my essential want
with thy lips that grasp and take
with tiger eyes you burn me thus
and rob my heart that it might break till
i must cross the sea of time for thee
for hissing kissing whispers - Cat!
we know so much that's bitter sweet
we drink our pain and drink so deep
like hounds of weep who run like red on broken
knees to you my desperate heart my desperate bed
inside this night i cannot know what God pretends
with His High Enlightened Humor -throws!
in His High Enlightened Humor - Sends!
to less enlightened burning loves like we
you whisper my essential want
you kiss my eyes
i cannot see
with thy lips that grasp and take
with tiger eyes you burn me thus
and rob my heart that it might break till
i must cross the sea of time for thee
for hissing kissing whispers - Cat!

thrush
I am the thorn in
Your finger you are
The thrush in my ear heard
High from a lingering
Window felt deep like a
Throb that is dear
Your finger you are
The thrush in my ear heard
High from a lingering
Window felt deep like a
Throb that is dear
on Thursday
What I would have said on Thursday
Had so intended you to call
Was how I've missed the way we
Laughed and danced through
Vintage nights your eyes so
Bright like talismans on
The lake of memories of what we
Were of what was left unsaid of what I might
Have told you on that Thursday if I'd
Somehow got you live is thank you
For completing me in times so disassembled
For taking the in out of my sanity
For being the hands in mine
My friend my cher my sweet divine
How I would trade hot sunlit days
To hear you whisper in the shade
Melt golden time into a cup that we might
Drink from once together both
What I would have said that evening
Will haunt me all my days
Would be no words but hold
You close and kiss you once
Before you went away.

sitting near
sitting near you i sometimes think
there are advantages in being far away
because of how my hair stands up close
and short when you are here i could almost
give them names they are oh so particular
about you each and every hair and
i think suspect for they will never tell that
it is your skin they long to inhabit for it is so
much lovelier than mine like under feathers and
rain water for then they could be closer to all of
you your head your thoughts your eyes your lips
your chin your grin still
i cannot help but see how often more
you look at me across the room as if the
heads and feet between us were an absence
not a space there is nothing more lovelier
than catching your eyes already in mine it
only underlines the beautiful biting pain of
not being you and will never be but long to be
till i must settle then for merely loving you and
sitting near and trying not to stare.

...in trees...
Through the trees princess there are sounds like
Leaves moving falling like rain and sighs
I see your eyes are greater than the moon
Softer than all feathers and whispering
Humming in me are words that would betray
What my damned face has tried to conceal till
I would feel them banging up against inside me
Like the always crowd around us
When you are near enough to touch and say
Still from your Indian fence you smile at me
Framed by all the others I do not love - a jewel in smoke
I smile back and think you do not understand
The way I look at you and am undone like string
Lying sprawled between stupidity and hope
I am lost in trees that hum and bang and damn and crowd
And sing.
